November, 2009 - WALLINGFORD - Record Journal Article

WALLINGFORD - Theresa Ranciato-Viele, a project manager for Construction Services of Branford LLC, was named the 2009 recipient of the Athena Award given out by the Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce.

The international award is given annually to a local person who demonstrates superior professional, community and leadership skills.

Ranciato-Viele, a North Haven resident, has worked in the telecommunications industry for more than 10 years. She negotiates, leases, works with realtors, engineers and municipalities and is recognized as one of the company's key employees, according to a nominating letter.

Ranciato-Viele's mother Sandy Carter accepted the award on behalf of her daughter Friday at the Quinnipiac Chamber's 10th Athena Award luncheon at the Oakdale Theater. It was presented by state Sen . Leonard Fasano R-North Haven.

"We feel Theresa exemplifies the three criteria for this award; excellence in her profession, commitment to the community and setting an example to further the careers of women," said Robin Wilson, president of the Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce.

Ranciatoi-Viele's community service projects include her efforts to help the Leukemia Society conduct bone marrow drives in memory of her son, Jack Viele who died of the disease at age 10 in 1999.

She also started a fund at the Eli Whitney Museum in Hamden in his name to raise money for special assistance for children with cancer, autism, diabetes or other illnesses that would make it difficult or impossible for them to attend summer camp or other programs.

She is involved with the North Haven Rotary, North Haven Community Food Bank, big Brothers/Big Sisters and more.

Nominees for this year's Athena Award were honored with plaques. They included Rosalind Fishbein-Gallagher, of Gallagher Travel, Kate Kelley director of REM Connecticut Community Services and Christine Mansfield, chief executive officer of Discovery Training Services.
